Svaneti Itinerary — 7 Days

A week is enough to do Svaneti properly — every major highlight, a real rest day, and room to let the weather cooperate.

By ProSvaneti team · Updated 2026-07-08

Short answer: 7 days is enough to do Svaneti without compromises — Ushguli, Koruldi Lakes, Chalaadi Glacier, Mazeri, a Tetnuldi sunset, and a genuine rest day, with slack built in for weather. This is the version we'd recommend if your schedule allows it.

Day 1 — Arrive, settle in

Transfer from Kutaisi (~4.5h) or Zugdidi (~2.5h) — see how to get to Svaneti. Walk Mestia's towers and old quarter. Easy evening.

Day 2 — Ushguli

Full day: the Ushguli day tour, 8–10 hours to the UNESCO tower villages under Mount Shkhara.

Day 3 — Rest / free day in Mestia

After Ushguli, take a genuine day off from touring. Wander town, visit the museum, eat well, or just recover — the altitude and long days add up faster than people expect.

Day 4 — Chalaadi Glacier (easy)

An easy half-day forest walk to the Chalaadi Glacier snout — low effort, high payoff. Afternoon free.

Day 5 — Koruldi Lakes

Half to full day at the Koruldi Lakes for the classic Mount Ushba panorama — by 4x4 with a short walk, or the full hike if you want it.

Day 6 — Mazeri & Shdugra waterfall

A full day to the Mazeri valley and Shdugra waterfall under Ushba's north face, finishing with an evening Tetnuldi sunset run if the weather forecast for that evening looks clear — otherwise push the sunset run to Day 7 morning slack.

Day 7 — Buffer day, then departure

Keep this day loosely planned on purpose. Mountain weather and roads don't always cooperate with a fixed schedule — a spare day means a missed Koruldi morning or a rescheduled sunset run doesn't wreck the whole trip. If everything went to plan, use it for a slower village walk or last-minute souvenir shopping before your onward transfer.

If you have this much time, consider the trek instead

A full week is also close to what the Mestia–Ushguli trek needs on its own — a genuinely different, multi-day hiking trip through the villages between Mestia and Ushguli. If that interests you more than a day-tour-based week, talk to us about swapping this itinerary for the trek version instead of trying to combine both.

FAQ

What makes 7 days different from 5?+

A real rest day, room to reschedule around bad weather without losing an activity entirely, and time for the Tetnuldi sunset run in addition to the main hiking days — instead of choosing between them.

Is 7 days enough to also do the Mestia–Ushguli trek?+

Only if you drop most of the day-tour list — the multi-day trek is a different, longer commitment on its own. See our dedicated guide before trying to combine the two.
