How to get there
From Mestia, a rough 4x4 track climbs past the Cross viewpoint to near the lakes, then a short walk. On foot it's about 800 m of ascent over 3–4 hours one way.
Best time to visit
July to September, once the snow has cleared from the ridge. Mornings usually give the best chance of Ushba being cloud-free.
The Koruldi Lakes are the payoff hike (or drive) right above Mestia: a set of small alpine tarns on the ridge, with the unmistakable double summit of Mount Ushba filling the view. At around 2,700 m it feels genuinely high, but it's accessible enough for a half-day.
Reach it by 4x4 with a short walk, or make it a full hike. Either way, go in the morning and pick a clear day — Ushba hides in cloud more often than not.

FAQ
Do I have to hike, or can I drive up?+
You can drive most of the way by 4x4 and walk the last stretch, or hike the whole route (about 800 m of climbing). Driving up and walking down is a popular compromise.
Will I definitely see Ushba?+
No guarantees — Ushba is often in cloud. Early morning gives the best odds, and we watch the forecast to pick a good window.
